Services

Five disciplines. Each one mastered. All of them estimable before a site visit.

01Most Popular

Color Drench

The most transformative upgrade in interior construction.

Typical range

Most color drench projects: $8k–$22k depending on room size, prep condition, and coating tier.

Color drench is the art of saturating an entire room — walls, ceiling, trim, doors, and architectural details — in a single, continuous color. The effect collapses the visual noise of a typical painted room and replaces it with a mood that is immediate, immersive, and impossible to photograph poorly.

At Black Hat, we approach color drench as a precision craft, not a coat of paint. We account for every surface: prep work, skim coating imperfections, application method (brush versus spray versus roll), sheen tier selection, and the finish-coat schedule that produces the depth of color the concept calls for. Specialty coatings — limewash, mineral paint, tinted lacquer — are in our repertoire when the design calls for them.

The result is a room that photographs like a magazine spread and lives like nothing else you've experienced in your home.

What's in scope

  • Full-room prep including skim coat and prime where warranted
  • Sheen selection matched to room use and light conditions
  • Specialty coatings: limewash, mineral paint, tinted lacquer
  • Ceiling, walls, trim, doors — all as one seamless field
  • Professional color consultation included

Crown Molding & Millwork

Architectural detail that signals craftsmanship before a word is spoken.

Typical range

Millwork projects range widely: a single fireplace surround from $4k; full-room millwork packages from $18k.

Millwork is the oldest and most enduring form of interior luxury. Crown molding, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, fireplace surrounds, built-in bookcases — these are not decorative afterthoughts. They are structural commitments to the quality of the space.

Black Hat approaches millwork with the same rigor a cabinet maker brings to furniture. Every piece is scribed to the wall. Every joint is tight before paint. Every profile is selected for the proportions of the room — not from a catalog default. We build our own blocking where the walls don't support it, and we finish every surface to a standard that survives scrutiny at arm's length.

We also handle the paint. No hand-offs. No coordination failures. The millwork is primed, caulked, and finish-coated as part of our scope, so the job is complete when we leave.

What's in scope

  • Crown molding: standard and compound miter profiles
  • Wainscoting: board and batten, raised panel, shaker rail
  • Coffered and tray ceiling framing + finish
  • Fireplace surrounds, mantels, and overmantel panels
  • Custom built-in shelving, cabinetry, and entertainment walls
  • Full finish painting included in all millwork scopes

Custom Accent Features

Architecture that is designed for your room, not borrowed from a showroom.

Typical range

Custom accent features: $6k–$35k depending on scope, materials, and structural requirements.

A custom accent feature is the object in a room that makes a guest ask "what is that?" — the fireplace wall that doubles as a library, the kitchen island wrapped in fluted oak, the entertainment wall that disappears into the room's geometry.

We design and build bespoke accent structures from rough framing through finished surface. Every material decision — wood species, panel profile, metal inlay, stone face — is made for the specific room. We don't upsell complexity for its own sake; we build the version of the concept that holds up at the project's price point.

The process starts with a design consultation, moves to a dimensioned concept, and ends with a finished piece that earns its place in the room for the next twenty years.

What's in scope

  • Entertainment and media walls with integrated storage
  • Custom fireplace walls with built-in shelving
  • Fluted panel accents: kitchen islands, bars, feature walls
  • Integrated home office niches and library builds
  • Metal inlay and mixed-material surface work
  • Full paint and stain finish included

Smart Home Integration

Technology embedded at the finish stage — invisible to the eye, powerful in daily life.

Typical range

Smart finish packages: $3k–$18k depending on device count and system complexity.

Smart home features installed after a renovation is complete are always a visible compromise — switches that don't match, wire channels cut into fresh paint, technology that fights the architecture instead of serving it.

Black Hat integrates lighting, motorized shades, and smart control systems during the construction phase, when every conduit can be routed cleanly and every device can be recessed into its intended home. The result is a finished room where the technology is invisible and the control is effortless.

We work with Lutron Caséta, Leviton, and select third-party systems depending on the client's existing ecosystem. We specify and install; for larger whole-home automation projects we work alongside a certified AV integrator.

What's in scope

  • Recessed lighting design: layout, placement, and color temperature
  • Lutron Caséta and Leviton smart dimmer packages
  • Motorized roller and sheer shade systems
  • Under-cabinet and accent lighting circuits
  • Conduit routing and clean chase work during active construction
  • Voice-assistant and app-control configuration

Custom Spaces

Rooms built from the floor up, where every finish tier is a decision — not a default.

Typical range

Custom spaces: $25k–$150k. A design consultation and concept is required before estimating.

A home gym, a private theater, a dedicated wine room, a luxury master suite — these are not rooms that improve incrementally. They are conceived and built as complete environments, where the flooring, lighting, acoustic treatment, storage, and finish level are coordinated from day one.

Black Hat builds custom spaces for homeowners who know what they want and want it done at the same standard as everything else in their home. We don't sub out the decisions that matter. We design the space, source the materials, manage the trades, and deliver a room that performs exactly as described in the estimate.

Projects in this category typically run $25k–$150k and involve 3–10 weeks of active construction. The design process starts with a paid consultation and a dimensioned concept before a single line item is priced.

What's in scope

  • Luxury home gyms: flooring, mirrors, storage, rubber underlayment
  • Home theaters: acoustic treatment, projection, lighting scenes
  • Wine rooms: climate control framing, custom racking, finish
  • Entertainment suites: full AV, built-ins, custom ceiling work
  • Dedicated home offices: custom cabinetry, lighting, acoustic panels
  • Full coordination across trades, managed by Black Hat
